Weekly flower update from Namaqua National Park: 1 September
The flowers in the Skilpad area, as well as in Koeroebees and Wildeperdehoek, are slowly beginning to wilt – a clear sign that the wildflower season is rapidly drawing to a close in these inland regions. This natural decline is typical as temperatures rise, and rainfall decreases toward the end of the blooming period.
However, along the coastal stretch on the opposite side, vibrant wildflowers are still in full bloom. The cooler, moist conditions near the ocean often extend the flowering season, allowing for a longer viewing window and a richer diversity of species.

15 July 2025: Early blooming signals a promising 2025 season

Wildflowers are starting to bloom in Namaqua National Park. This marks the early signs of what could be a stunning 2025 flower season. Since March, the region has enjoyed good rainfall, followed by cool weather and sunny spells. These were the perfect conditions for early germination, especially among the iconic Namaqualand daisies.
Thanks to warmer-than-usual periods in late autumn and early winter, spring-like conditions triggered earlier blooming. While flowering is still patchy in some areas, it’s a clear indication that the season is starting.
The Skilpad section is just beginning to show colour, while parts of the 4×4 eco-route, including Wildeperdehoek and Kookfontein, are already bursting into bloom. If current conditions continue, cool temperatures, soft rain, and no harsh east winds, the Namaqualand wildflower season could stretch well into August and even September.
